Orientation Mix Match

Testosterone Marriage Relationships Conferences

August 2004 -- Orientation Mix Match

We had low attendance at this meeting due to the scheduling conflict with the Pathways Transgender Program's annual picnic.

We did discuss four topics, resources for which are:

  1. Testosterone
  2. Marriage
  3. Relationships
  4. Conference

Testosterone

Little facts about hormones

Is depo-testosterone really made in generic form again? Yes! Watson Pharmaceuticals produces depo-testosterone (testosterone cypionate) in the 200mg/ml strength, as well as testosterone enanthate in 100mg/ml strength. Unfortunately, even though it's generic, it's only about 7-8% cheaper than name brand Upjohn.

Where is the cheapest place to buy testosterone? From the mini-poll (sample size = 8) FORGE conducted of online and in-person pharmacies, Kronos Compounding Pharmacy ranked best in price and quality. For $59.95 for a 10ml vial of 200mg/ml depo-testosterone plus $7 shipping, you can have your prescription delivered right to your door.

Ask the Pharmacist: What happens when injectable testosterone freezes? It crystallizes. Not to worry, though. Just warm the vial up by rubbing it between your hands or letting it thaw naturally in room temperature. Gently shake the vial after it's fully thawed -- the chemical integrity will be fully-in-tact.

Ask the Pharmacist: How long does testosterone really last? The expiration date on vials of injectable testosterone is fairly accurate. Pharmacists don't agree on the exact chemical structure changes as testosterone ages. Most pharmacists we spoke with said that the effectiveness (strength) of the drug lessens after the expiration date, reducing in strength fairly rapidly after 3 months past the expiration date. Keep your script up to date!!

Marriage

So what about marriage?

1. Trans Marriage FAQ
The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), in collaboration with the Transgender Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) and the Transgender Law Center (TLC), developed a Trans Marriage FAQ that will answer questions regarding the current same-sex marriage debate and its relationship to trans people.

3. US Immigration Policy on Transgender Marriage
The Empty Closet reports (via QueerDay ) that GenderPAC is protesting a recent policy announcement by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), a subset of the Office of Homeland Security. The policy will bar recognition of:
"any marriage in which either party has changed or plans to change their sex.
The policy would prevent foreign spouses from obtaining immigration rights in marriages - or engagements to be married - where one spouse is transgender and either one is an American citizen."

Conferences

One of the best recurring conferences is Southern Comfort. While this year's conference has already come and gone, plan ahead for next year. http://www.sccatl.org/
