Art, Body and Soul:
Learning to Love Our Bodies
Art, Body and Soul Flyer

Art, Body, and Soul is a monthly drop-in art exploration program focused on body image issues. We'll be using art to address issues associated with body size, race, shape, gender, dis/ability, and more to reach a place of deeper acceptance and self-love. Although an artist leads the group, no art experience or talent is needed to enjoy and grow from the activities.
This group meets on Thursday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, 315 W. Court Street, Milwaukee.
Suggested donation (which includes all supplies) is $10, although arrangements can be made for those who cannot afford the donation. 2007-2008 dates are:
October 25, 2007November 29, 2007December 27, 2007January 24, 2008February 28, 2008March 27, 2008

Reverse Inclusion: A trans+/SOFFA organization is hosting an event that welcomes the broader LGBTQIA (and straight) community.

Fast Facts about the Art, Body and Soul Group
What will happen at the group?
Each group will focus on a specific topic related to Body Image. After doing a short ice breaker activity and introducing the night’s topic, we will begin to explore that topic with an art project. One month, we might make paper-mache masks; another month, we might collage. The creative projects will be laid-back and enjoyable, so no need to worry about your skill level. At the end of the group, we will come together and share what we have created. The sharing is optional and individual; you will never be pressed to share beyond your comfort level.
Do I need art experience to attend the group?
Not at all. The art projects we will be working on are suitable for all levels of experience. The group will provide a supportive environment which values art as expression and exploration. There will be no judgment or critiquing at the group.
Who is welcome to attend the group?
Everyone is welcome to attend the group. Body Image is an issue that affects almost everyone, at one time or another. While this group is run by FORGE (a transgender organization), it is a Reverse Inclusion group which means it is open and accepting of everyone. This is a safe space to express yourself and let your voice be heard.
I am interested in attending, but I get so tired at the end of the day…
How about this: We will make every effort to have energizing refreshments at the group, if you give it a try and attend. Your favorite TV show can also be recorded at home, and enjoyed when you return home filled with pride in the artwork you took time to create.
I’m nervous. What else do I need to know?
- It is natural to be nervous before attending a group meeting. We encourage people to take care of themselves before, during and after events. We promise to create a space that is welcoming and supportive.
- All people are welcome to attend, and may participate at whatever level feels comfortable. As a group participant, you will never be forced to disclose anything against your will.
- You will take your art project home with you at the end of the night.
- This is a drop-in group; you do not need to register or attend every session.
- The $10 fee per session is negotiable; we have a sliding-fee scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
- This group provides a safe, non-judgmental space for you to be yourself and have some fun.
